Words Don’t Really Matter

Do words really matter? We tell our children they do. We defend our use of words. We remind ourselves to choose our words carefully.

However, at the end of our life, whether we die of old age, disease, violence, or an accident, our words don’t really matter. There’s only one word that matters—His Word—the Word of God.

It was His Word that brought our world into existence, His Word that brought comfort to sinful Man in the Garden, His Word that promised a coming redemption.

It was the Word who became a man, the Word who healed a cripple, the Word who restored sight to the blind, the Word who brought a dead man to life, the Word who said, “Father, forgive them.”

It was the Word who took the punishment for our sins, the Word who conquered death for us, the Word who rose to give us life.

Our words don’t really matter, but His Word does.

His Word says, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:7

No other words matter.

Oh but our words do matter when we use them to speak against His Word. When we agree with evil rather than God or we declare curses rather than blessings. Oh how our words will destroy so quickly all that His Word did so much to correct and protect. A fool whose words are always flying out of his mouth with no regard or respect for what is Truth will eventually come to his own demise. Not because God destroyed him, but because He lacked self-control over his tongue and he used it to break the souls of others and to work such slander and hatred that daggers were found in the people all around where his tongue had been strutting through uncontrolled. Jesus was very clear on our words being evidence that will be used against us. Every careless word spoken we must give account for He said. And when a person is in Christ they will speak words of life and spirit filled, eternal truths that produce life but for those not in Christ, watch out because they will speak everything that the enemy is whispering in the air of the sons of disobedience.
You are correct that it is only His Word that matters, but if people don’t speak it and agree with it, what they say will matter and determine the course of their life. The Lord showed me how powerful our words are and that power can be for good or evil. We hope for everyone to speak God’s word and produce good. When the President declares terrible outcomes for the nation if someone else is elected, we need to come against those words and speak Truth to keep those things from being established.
